“Life happens in the kitchen. It’s the hearth of the home. We love inspiring families to embrace the warmth and beauty of the best room in the house,” said Karl Benson, owner of Cooks of Crocus Hill.
Cooks of Crocus Hill has been part of the community for many years. “We live in your neighborhoods. Our kids go to school with your kids. We all share the same kitchen tables,” said Karl. Cooks of Crocus Hill has also been a valued partner since the beginning of PowerUp (2013), helping to spark kid’s curiosity about food and how to prepare it in fun and delicious ways.
Karl went on to say, “We absolutely believe that all kids benefit from healthy food and a healthy understanding of food. Where it comes from. How to prepare it. Inspiring curiosity about food is a path that will serve kids, as well as the community, throughout their life. There is no better place to start this relationship than with kids!”

When asked, why teaching cooking classes to kids was so valuable, Karl said, “we know that one of the best ways to create a sustainable change is to start with kids. Opening their eyes to the beauty of fruits and vegetables and the joy of time spent together in the kitchen with friends and family. One child can start to change the perspectives of one family. One family can start to change the perspectives of one community.”
PowerUp and Cooks of Crocus Hill continue to partner getting kids in the kitchen and excited about cooking and trying fun, creative fruit and veggie-inspired recipes through PowerUp kid’s cooking classes. To learn more about these upcoming 2018 classes and to get registered visit powerup4kids.org
